Dreich is a Scottish word for wet, gloomy, rainy. I wanted to show how gloomy and dreich this space can be, but the little lights in the distance, in the hills, bring warmth ever so slightly, even in the midst of a very dark painting. I really wanted folks to know that there is still light in a very dreich day.
